Charlotte Douglas International Airport – Terminal Lobby Expansion

Edison Foard was thrilled to work on another project with Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The request was to construct a complete renovation and expansion of the existing landside terminal’s ticketing and baggage claim lobbies. This expansion also provided an opportunity to participate in a joint venture with Holder Construction, which acted as the managing partner.

There were many complex aspects to this project, including enhancements to check-in, security, baggage claim, passenger flow, and vertical and horizontal circulation. These improvements were made to increase capacity, enhance the passenger experience, and improve the overall operation of the ticket and baggage claim lobbies.

The work on this project proved to be an exciting challenge, as we had to create a multi-level building expansion of approximately 80 feet by 800 feet between the existing terminal lobby and the curbside roadway. We also constructed a curbside canopy that extends between the new building expansion and the existing hourly garage to cover the curbside road. Edison Foard also built pedestrian bridges that connect the terminal lobby to the hourly and rental car garage over the roadway.

We are proud of the end result and believe this expansion will continue to improve the passenger experience at Charlotte Douglas International Airport for years to come.
