Edison Foard was proud to serve as the prime contractor for the Mountain Island Charter Design/Build project. This massive undertaking encompassed 21 acres of site enhancements within a 44-acre expanse. These enhancements spanned various aspects such as grading, site concrete, retaining walls, utilities on and off-site, creek preservation, fencing, landscaping, paving, and road widening and improvements.
One major aspect of the project was renovations to the Administrative Building. Spanning 5,248 SF updates included a new steel frame, Hardi Plank siding over rigid insulation, and metal studs adorned with sleek storefront windows. Other improvements that were integral to the project include all low-voltage systems (fire alarms, communication, security, and data) which are centrally controlled from the administrative hub. This system was seamlessly dispersed throughout each campus building.
In addition to the Administrative Building, Edison Foard also renovated the Modular Classroom building complex. This complex is comprised of eight buildings, each averaging 8,000 SF, encompassing infrastructure work, electrical, plumbing, sidewalks, wood ramps, decks, and railings.
Meanwhile, the Multipurpose building, spanning 28,059 SF, also received a major overhaul. Its versatile layout now accommodates a gym, an auxiliary gym, locker rooms, toilets, classrooms, storage, and offices. With a robust steel frame, the exterior showcases a blend of masonry, metal panels, curtain wall, storefront, and decorative cedar siding, adding both functionality and aesthetic appeal to the structure.
Despite this project being enormous in size and scope, Edison Foard’s team was able to make incredible improvements to the Mountain Islander Charter School that will benefit its student body, faculty, and staff for years to come.
